The Department of Computer Science at Western is one of the oldest in North America, having been established in 1964. The Department has strong international and industrial links, with connections to other universities and companies in London, across North America and Europe. This provides opportunities for students to involve themselves in exchange programs, or engage in work with researchers in other countries.

Computer science is a discipline concerned with the managing and manipulation of information in order to solve complex problems, usually through the use of custom made programs. Computers have also become key elements of advances in many other fields. Having the skills and knowledge of Computer Science can enhance the careers of animators, biologists, chemists, engineers, etc.

Our 28 full-time professors do research in a wide range of areas of study, and include joint appointments with Information and Media Studies and Law. Our research labs are kept up to date with state-of-the-art equipment and software, funded by industry and government agencies such as the Canadian Genome Analysis and Technology Program, CITO, CITR, IBM, NSERC, and ORDCF.

Western provides the best student experience among Canada's leading research-intensive universities.
