Project Proposal
Due:
Friday Oct. 3, 2008 at 5 p.m.
Weight: 5%
Hand in: a single-sided paper
document, either to my mailbox in the Computer Science main office (give it to
the office staff in MC355) or to my office, MC416 (if I'm not there, slide it
under the door).
Note: The Project
Proposal must be signed by your supervisor(s) to indicate approval of the
project content.
Your project proposal should include at
least the following:
- Title page
- title of project
- whether it is a software project or a
research project
- your name and email address
- name of your supervisor(s)
- signature of the supervisor(s), indicating
approval of the proposal
- Introduction
- brief introduction to the subject area (to
set your project into context)
- motivation for the project (i.e. why is your
project being done?)
- Problem Statement
- Proposed Solution
- Requirements
regarding the use of specialized equipment or unusual software (if any)
- Timetable: This
should include milestones in your project, including some breakdown of the
steps involved in researching and completing your project, with
approximate dates for each milestone.
- References (if
applicable)
For a research project, the proposal
should also contain:
- Plan for your progress reports: What do you plan to achieve by each progress
report milestone?
For example:
- progress report 1: literature search
- progress report 2: literature review and
terminology
- progress report 3: draft report
Approximate length:
All projects are different, but an
approximate length of 2 to 4 pages (not including Title Page) is suggested.
(This is not a hard and fast rule; it is just to give you an idea of the level
of detail required for this document.)
