We are pleased to announce that Dr. Anwar Haque, an Associate Director at Bell Canada, will teach a course in Advanced Networks/Distributed systems for both undergraduate (CS 4457) and graduate students(course number to be determined).

The Internet and other modern communications services provided by telco companies (e.g., Bell Canada, Telus, Rogers) are a part of today’s modern society. Today’s Telco industry serves as a technological backbone for any services and infrastructure one could imagine e.g., content delivery, smart homes, e-health. This course will introduce some of the core technical functionalities within a Telco industry; introduce the core challenges in these units, and how these challenges could be explored. Students will gain real life knowledge and experience through various research projects, discussion, and assignments.

This course is open to both senior undergraduate and graduate students although evaluation requirements may differ. Ideally students will have taken an introductory course in networks. However, graduate students with strong background in machine learning and statistics may find many relevant problems e.g., network traffic forecasting.

Dr. Haque is currently an Associate Director at Bell Canada where he oversees Bell`s service costing, as well as the company’s multi-million-dollar network capital portfolios. For his strong leadership and professional services he has received a number of awards at Bell.

Dr. Haque received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He also received M.Math degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Windsor, and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from North South University. He received management training and various certifications from Schulich School of Business, York University, and DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University.
