The Department of Computer Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Anwar Haque as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, as part of Science’s Industry Expert in Residence program. This position is supported with funds from Telus and Nordicity. Dr. Haque is also appointed as an Industry Expert in Residence in the Faculty of Science. He comes to Western from Bell Canada where he spent fifteen years as a Researcher, Manager, and Associate Director in a number of core business units including Network Planning and Operations, Technology Development, and Business Decision Support. Dr Haque is a proven champion of Canadian industry-academia partnerships.
Dr. Haque received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He also received M.Math degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo; M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Windsor; and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the North South University. He received various management/professional training from Schulich School of Business, York University. Dr. Haque’s primary research areas of interest include network QoS, network security and reliability, software define network and virtualisation, network economics, and IoT based applications.
He is one of the master planners of Bell`s nationwide state-of-the-art IP MPLS core networks that is recognized as Canada’s most advanced and largest IP MPLS core footprint. His technical contribution and leadership in developing network directives, models, metrics, and methods and processes were critical in assisting Bell teams in meeting their corporate objectives. Recently, his developed systems at Bell support multi-billion dollar yearly revenue portfolios. During his tenure at Bell, for his outstanding technical contributions and strong leadership, he received a number of awards and recognitions.
Dr. Haque has a long history of fostering relationships with industrial partners and Universities. For more than a decade, his relentless effort and leadership in promoting high value multi-million dollar research projects partnering with industry, Universities, and Govt funding agencies led to many industry-academia success stories.
One of Dr. Haque’s goals is to develop a major industry-academia research consortium between Western University and a number of corporations in network technologies and Internet service sectors. This consortium will carry out cutting edge research activities to address future challenges in the next generation Internet. This unique multi-purpose platform will not only help Western strengthening its existing industry relation, but also help Western’s students and faculties to get benefit through various Western – industry collaboration programs.
