VMware Academic Program

VMware has retired the VMware Academic Program.  We are currently investigating getting access to its replacement.

Overview

The VMware Academic Program provides access to cutting-edge virtualization technology and resources in teaching and research. The program provides both desktop and infrastructure software for personal use, whether as part of STEM classes, in research projects, or for gaining hands-on experience with VMware products.

Products Available

The VMware Academic Program provides access to a variety of VMware products, including:

  • Workstation
  • Fusion
  • vSphere
  • vCenter
  • vCloud

Eligibility

The VMware Academic Program is available to all students taking a Computer Science course, along with Computer Science staff and faculty.

Accessing the Service 

The VMware Academic Program is integrated with Western's single sign-on (SSO) service.  When you sign in to the VMware Academic Program web site, you will be redirected back to Western's SSO system.  Be sure to log in with your Western username and password.

Frequently Asked Questions

It says that I'm unauthorized to use this service. What do I do?

If it is within the first two weeks of the semester

Your account is not yet active.  Your account will be active within two weeks of the start of the semester.

If you just added a Computer Science course within the last two weeks

Your account is not yet active.  Your account will be active within two weeks of adding the course.

If problems persist beyond two weeks of the start of the semester, please contact us.

I downloaded a product and entered the license key. Why does it say I'm using a trial product?

The license keys provided through the VMware Academic Program are good for approximately 365 days. After that, you will need to go back to the VMware Academic Program web site and obtain a new key for your software.
